Correlation studies simply assess the relationships between yield and other characteristics. Correlation between various traits is extremely valuable since it demonstrates the extent to which distinct plant characteristics are connected with economic productivity. Understanding the relationship between yield and its contributing characteristics is a fundamental and first step in determining plant selection recommendations. Path coefficient analysis, which divides overall correlation into direct and indirect effects, aids in selection. An experiment was conducted utilising simple coefficient correlation to assess the direct and indirect impacts of yield contributing features on grain yield. The experiment was conducted at three locations in Randomized Block Design viz., ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research (ICAR-IIRR), Rajendranagar, Regional Agricultural Research Station, Warangal and Regional Sugarcane and Rice Research Station, Rudrur in Rabi, 2016-17. The correlation coefficients and path analysis for grain yield and yield traits indicated that, among the characters studied, panicle weight, number of productive tillers per plant, number of filled grains per panicle, spikelet fertility percentage, 1000-grain weight played a greater role in realizing higher yields. Spikelet fertility was found to have an indirect positive impact on grain yield through the following measures: days to 50% flowering, panicle weight, number of tillers per plant, number of productive tillers per plant, number of filled grains per panicle, and days to maturity; on the other hand, plant height and panicle length showed negative effects.
