SUMMARY: Aim: The aim of the analysis was to examine the sources of information that vocational school students use when planning their further education and careers, as well as to assess their opinions on the role of educational and career guidance provided in schools in preparing them for professional work. This research is part of a broader reflection on the role of work in human life, which has accompanied individuals since ancient times, influencing both their personal and professional development. The paper also takes into account the historical context of how work has been perceived, its value during different periods, from antiquity to the present, and the significance of vocational education in shaping the future of young people. Methods: The research was conducted using a diagnostic survey method, employing an anonymous questionnaire distributed among students of technical schools and first-level vocational schools. The questionnaire included 42 open and closed questions, some of which utilized a Likert scale. This article analyzes partial results of the study, focusing on issues related to educational and career counseling. Results: The findings revealed that students primarily rely on informal sources of information, while career counselors play a limited role in their decision-making processes regarding further education. Additionally, many students are unaware of the availability of educational and career counseling in schools, which restricts their ability to take full advantage of these services. Conclusion: The results highlight the need for intensified informational and promotional efforts to increase students' awareness and engagement with educational and career counseling services. Effective counseling can better prepare students for their professional futures, enhance their competitiveness in the labour market, and elevate the prestige of work as a cornerstone of social life. Originality: The research may contribute to the development of important pedagogical implications for the rebuilding of the career counseling system, with the primary goal of helping and supporting young people in choosing a career path tailored to their individual capabilities and educational needs.
