The perceptions of primary education teachers on the role of the headmaster in conflict management

The present research focuses on exploring teachers" views on the conflicts between them, the causes that create them, the impact on the educational community, and the role that the headmaster plays in their effective management. This was followed by a quantitative methodological approach with the questionnaire data collection tool. The sample consisted of 160 primary school teachers of the regional unit of the Cyclades. The research shows that the main causes of conflicts are the lack of communication, the negative functioning of informal groups of teachers, as well as the way the school administration is managed by the headmaster. The practices through which a school unit can deal with disagreements are the correct information of teachers, the meaningful dialogue within the teachers" association, the fair distribution of responsibilities, the continuous coordination of the school unit by the principal, and the choice of the most suitable leadership model by him. From the above it is clear that the role of the latter is decisive.
