The article analyzes the modern innovation policy of Russia, including key trends, barriers and prospects for its development. Special attention is paid to the implementation of the Strategy of Scientific and Technological Development of the Russian Federation until 2035. The purpose of the work. The priority areas identified by this strategy of scientific and technological development are considered, as well as the main problems and risks that hinder the active introduction of innovations into the country's economy. The key factors determining the trajectory of innovative growth are identified. Methodology. The research uses methods of historical and economic analysis, theory of industrial and technological balance of the economy, system paradigm, evolutionary and institutional theory, expert and analytical assessments. Results. The innovation policy of modern Russia: trends, barriers, prospects reveal the current situation in the field of innovation, highlighting the trends and main obstacles faced by the country's economy. The main barriers remain insufficient funding, weak legislative support and problems in infrastructure development. At the same time, the prospects are related to strengthening government support and stimulating private investment in innovation. Conclusions. The economic justification of innovative development based on investment activity covers the analysis and justification of key aspects affecting the development of Russia's innovation potential through attracting investments. An important factor is the strengthening of the role of investment as the main source for financing innovation, which allows creating conditions for technological progress and increasing the competitiveness of the country.
