Aim and Objectives: To review literature on the role of Janubasti in the pain management of Janusandhigatavata. Materials and Methods: Review of Charak Samhita, Nighantus, and Panchakarma textbooks was conducted to understand the application and efficacy of Janubasti. Background: Janusandhigatavata, a form of Vata Vyadhi, presents with Sandhishool (joint pain), Sandhishotha (joint swelling), Sandhihanti (restricted movement), and Atopa (crepitus). It correlates with knee osteoarthritis in modern medicine, a degenerative disorder common in old age due to Dhatu Kshaya, lifestyle changes, and repetitive stress. The global prevalence is 28.7%, and in India, it ranges between 22-39%. Janubasti provides oleation (Snehana) to degenerating cartilage, improving pain, stiffness, and inflammation while enhancing oxygen and nutrient-rich blood flow to the joint, facilitating functional restoration. Conclusion: Janubasti effectively oleates degenerative cartilage, alleviating pain, stiffness, and restricted movement, thus improving the quality of life in Janusandhigatavata patients.
