ABSTRACT This study investigates the influence of fathers' perceptions of fatherhood and experiences with their own fathers on their parental effectiveness. Addressing a gap in the literature, it explores how these factors shape parental self‐efficacy among fathers of children across various developmental stages. A sample of 368 fathers in Türkiye participated, recruited through snowball sampling. Data were collected using the Father's Role Perception Scale, Parental Self‐Efficacy Scale and Paternal Influence Assessment Scale. Findings revealed a significant relationship between parental self‐efficacy and fathers' upbringing environments, with positive father‐son relationships enhancing parenting effectiveness. The study highlights the intergenerational transmission of parenting behaviours and suggests that targeted interventions considering fathers' unique experiences can foster better parenting practices. This research offers insights into the complexities of fatherhood and provides a foundation for future studies aimed at improving father–child relationships and promoting child development.
