This article examines the pivotal role of the Production Manager in fostering a culture of improved safety leadership within Oil and gas production facilities, highlighting their influence and how it can be effectively leveraged to drive performance. A strong correlation is drawn between leadership style and employee attitudes towards safety compliance, and central to the discussion is the concept of Transformational Leadership, which is a style of Leadership that best aligns with the measures required for cultivating a safety-oriented culture, referencing its four key attributes: idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration. Each of these components is discussed in terms of their practical application in Oil and Gas settings to provide a methodology that a manager can use to build up a workplace safety leadership culture.
