In the modern world, the regional economy plays a key role in ensuring the stability of national development. Regional economic systems are complex and dynamic structures that include various industries, small and medium businesses, infrastructure, as well as social and cultural parameters. Their sustainability is the ability to maintain and develop their commercial, social and environmental components in the face of internal and external pressure, such as economic crises, natural disasters and global changes. The sustainability of regional economic systems is the basis of national stability and the progressive development of Russia as the longest country in the world, with the largest area. It is determined by a set of factors that require constant attention and improvement. The main factors influencing the sustainability of the regional economy can be divided into internal and external. Internal factors reflect the intra-systemic sustainability of the economy, as well as the society and ecology of the region; they include the level of human resources, innovation climate, quality of infrastructure, and the presence of diversified industries. In turn, external factors reflect global economic trends, changes in global supply chains, and current sanctions. The interaction of these factors determines the ability of the region to adapt and resist negative impacts. In the context of global challenges and military-political confrontation between Russia and the countries of the collective West, the formation of flexible and diversified regional economic systems becomes the key to not only the prosperity of individual regions that have distinctive features from the national economy of Russia, but also the general well-being of the country’s population. Therefore, the key factor in Russia’s prosperity in the 21st century is the introduction of innovative solutions and the creation of conditions conducive to the development of sustainable and competitive regional economies. The analysis revealed that the achievement of the characteristics of sustainability of regional economic systems of the Russian Federation is facilitated by the systemic development of entrepreneurship, which has a direct impact on the quality of life of the country’s population.
