The current study critically examines the factors affecting government employees' acceptance of electronic document management systems (EDMS) in the public sector of the state of Sabah. The study seeks to identify current trends characterizing employees' attitudes toward EDMS usage, as well as the ability of government organizations for launching EDMS initiatives. Both quantitative and mixed methods were used to explore the objectives of this research. A survey was administered to 441 individuals who work at government organizations in the state of Sabah. The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model served as the study's theoretical framework. Results show that the state's public sector is ready for implementing EDMS initiatives. Further, all eight hypotheses related to the technology were confirmed by the research. In particular, it was found that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, social factors, and an attitude towards the technology could predict the variation in behavioral intentions related to technology use.
