Subject. This article discusses the issues of ensuring the economic security of Russia in the context of the development of information technologies. Objectives. The article aims to find tools necessary for preventing economically motivated crimes. Methods. For the study, we used comparative and statistical analyses. Results. The article finds a negative correlation between the economic crime rate (the number of crimes and the amount of material damage) and the level of economic security in Russia. The article proposes a new classification of economically motivated crimes, the application of which can help improve their detection rates. Conclusions. The results of the study can be used when developing economic security strategies for the regions of Russia in the medium term.
