Abstract An aerial volume table for use in estimating mortality in white spruce and balsam fir caused by spruce budworm in northern Minnesota was published in 1965. Since then its validity has been tested by comparing photo interpreters' estimates with field measurements of tree volume losses. The published table does not appear to be valid, and a revised table is suggested for use during the current level of spruce budworm activity.
