Serbia may be more open to nuclear power

Significance Amendments to the energy law have been put forward that would legally implement the abolition of the ban, paving the way for developing nuclear energy projects. Impacts Serbia likely wants NPPs to replace coal-fired thermal power plants, which currently produce over half its electricity. The abolition of the moratorium could see nuclear engineering programmes reintroduced in Serbian universities. Plans to build nuclear power plants could further galvanise environmentalist groups protesting the Jadar lithium mine project.
