The Effect of Picture Book Linked Robot Play on Story Comperhension and Creativity of 5-Year-Old Children

Objectives The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of picture book-linked robot play on story comprehension and creativity of five-year-old children. Methods For this purpose, 15 children at the age of 5 attending J kindergarten and O kindergarten in Seoul participated in this study. The children in the experimental group were provided with play materials to appreciate picture books and play with robots during free play time for about 4 weeks and 5 days from August 2 to August 24, 21. The children in the comparative group were provided with play materials to appreciate picture books and play freely. Before and after the play, score data for before and after the play was collected using the story comprehension and creativity test tools.The collected data were analyzed by using the SPSS 29.0 program to control the pre-score as a covariate and to analyze the effect of covariance analysis on the post-score. Results First, the picture book-linked robot play showed a significant difference in the total score of the story comprehension of 5-year-old children and each sub-factor Second, the picture book-linked robot play showed a significant difference in the total score of the creativity of 5-year-old children and each sub-factor. Conclusions Through this study, it is meaningful to discover the value of robots as play materials linked to picture books, and to reveal that the play experience of children's leading play creation using robots in connection with picture books is meaningful.
