Throughout Shen Congwen’s life, the great leap of identity has added legendary color to him. The starting point of all changes can be traced back to the period of Xiangxi. At the age of 14, he joined the army, tasted the warmth of human feelings in the army, and finally promoted to the scholar’s document with his own efforts. However, his yearning for freedom made him finally give up his well-paid stable work and go to Beijing alone with his dream to seek another form of independence. The classic female character Nora created in the “Doll’s House” seems to operate a happy life in the eyes of outsiders, and her heart has a demand for freedom and independence beyond the context of the times. Shen Congwen’s life trajectory in reality may provide a male interpretation for Nora’s text. This article is based on the book “the second half of Shen Congwen’s life”.
