In the progress of human civilisation, energy plays a cardinal role as the material foundation and driving power. At present, momentous changes of a like not seen in a century are accelerating across the world. A new round of scientific and technological revolutions and industrial transformation is well under way, presenting the global climate governance with new situation, new energies combine with information technology, our ways of life and production are accelerating towards decarbonisation, electrification and intelligence, and the energy system and development mode are entering a new era where non-fossil energies dominate. China highly emphasises energy transformation and development. It has proposed the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, accelerated the planning and construction of a new-type energy system, coordinated renewable energy development and national energy security, focused on critical areas and major demands of energies, rationally selected proper technical routes, and promoted new quality productive forces. Energy Internet is an important feature of the new-type energy system and an advanced form of the development of the new-type power system. It has gradually evolved from a future-oriented power distribution system that supports the plug-and-play of multiple types of distributed energies into a smart energy system featuring a deep fusion of new technologies from the energy and information fields, 'source-grid-load-storage' coordinated development, and multiple-energy integration and complementation. Countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan, based on their demand for energy, make use of the Internet concept of openness and reciprocity and its system architecture to transform the energy network's critical equipment, function and operation and employ ICT, AI and other technologies to promote the technological advancement in the energy field. China focuses on energy-related academic research and supports the implementation of projects. A clean energy supply system with multiple energy sources has been built, innovations of green, low-carbon power technologies are plentiful, and many technologies have reached the world-leading level. In recent years, as the carbon reduction and neutrality programmes progress in the world, Energy Internet-related technologies have become an opportune subject for research and discussion. The purpose of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering to launch the English journal of Energy Internet is to produce a world-class academic journal for the energy and power sector, report frontier research and achievements in Energy Internet, and promote cross-disciplinary integration and integrated innovation. Composed of top energy and power experts from around the globe, the editorial board will organise papers on hot subjects, improve article quality and build an international brand for promoting the research and development of theories, technologies and applications. Running a successful journal is inseparable from the support of contributors, readers, reviewers and friends from all walks of society. We sincerely hope that Energy Internet will soon grow into a world-class journal, and we will join the efforts of scientists to promote the energy revolution, the development of new quality productive forces, and the construction of a new-type energy system!
