With today's global emphasis on sustainability and environmental consciousness, the finical system plays a key role in crafting a more resilient future. Bibliometric analysis offers a quantitative approach to uncover trends in sustainability research. The present research focus to provide a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of sustainability in the banking sector, tracking research growth, prominent authors, institutions, and journals, and identifying research clusters. Data from the SCOPUS database covering 2016-2023 were analyzed using bibliometric tools and VOSViewer. A search statement was developed to collect relevant articles, resulting in 1542 publications. Inclusion criteria focused on journals and English-language articles. The study reveals China, the UK, the USA, Australia, and India as prominent contributors to sustainability research in banking. Coauthorship analysis highlights strong networks between these countries. Journals like "Sustainability," "Journal of Cleaner Production," and "Journal of Business Ethics" exhibit high cocitations, indicating their influence. Drivers of sustainability adoption in banking include regulatory policies, normative pressures, senior management commitment, corporate governance, digital transformation, employee awareness, and civil society pressures. Sustainable practices are associated with improved liquidity, profitability, and solvency. The study identifies key research areas for future exploration, such as green investments, ESG activities, and sustainability reporting in banking. This article conducts a comprehensive, global bibliometric analysis of sustainability in the banking sector, offering a panoramic view of research trends from 2016 to 2023. It uniquely addresses contemporary challenges, such as the carbon bias and regulatory impacts, offering practical implications for policymakers and financial institutions seeking to integrate sustainability into their strategies.
