The article studies a peculiar character found in Bulgarian folk mythology – calendar witches/sorceresses. It examines the periods of time when these beings were most active, as well as the various rituals ensuring protection from their harmful influences (milk theft and wheat theft). The author also discusses the names of this mythical character found in the Bulgarian dialects, along with the ritual actions and objects used for its neutralisation.
