Review Paper on Comprehensive Evaluation and Analysis of India's Urban Planning and Development Process for Managing Architectural Controls and Infrastructure Development in Towns

The trend towards concentration of urban population in a small number of large urban centres has been taking shape for over a century.Cities generally demand huge investments for their development.Large resources are spent on the development of various urban settlements but the conditions of these cities continue to deteriorate because of the piecemeal nature of expenditure and lack of definitive development schemes.Ad hoc efforts neither result in a better environment nor strengthen the economic base.Urban Planning is expected to give impetus to the development and economic growth of the town.In this study, the development proposals have been framed after a detailed study and analysis of the critical issues related to economic development, infrastructure, transportation, housing, environment and urban sustainability.This comprehensive effort has established a framework for physical and socio-economic development and upliftment of the city -its constituent elements and the development policy mechanism by which these goals can be achieved.To meet the growing demand for commercial activities and overcome the shortfall of available commercial space, a provision of mixed-use areas has been adopted adhering to the requisites of the environment, while achieving better synchronization between workplace, residence and transportation.The Existing Urban Planning and Development processes in most of the states in the country are managed, formulated and envisaged in the form of an instrument , broadly known as Master Plan .In this research work three Indian Towns having population of 10-15 lakhs and having historic and Regional Importance are selected for detailed study .Their existing Master Plans were studied in terms of process of their formulation, proposals, mode of Implementation, monitoring and revision under predetermined parameters.
