From Comparative Folklore Studies to World Common Folk Studies - The Fukuda Philosophy and World Peace -

민속학은 가정, 마을, 국가, 민족 등 사회와 지역을 구성하는 집단을 대상으로 하여 "상민常民", 서민의 일상생활을 듣고 쓰는 것을 통해 민속지로 문자화, 자료화하고 입론해왔다. 일찍이 야나기타 구니오(柳田國男)는 그 대응으로 "향토 연구", "일국민속학(一國民俗学)", "비교민속학", "세계민속학"의 전개를 구상했다. 그런데 오늘날 사람들이 인식하는 생활세계의 범위는 스마트폰이나 PC를 비롯한 정보기기의 발달로 전지구적 규모로 확대되었으며 그에 더해 순식간에 알 수도 있게 되었다. 바꾸어 말하자면 "개인"과 "세계"의 관계가 직접화. 가시화된 국제화 시대를 맞이하게 된 것이다. 다문화 공생사회의 전제로서 비교민속연구, 비교민속학의 추진에 의해 각각의 지역에 살고 있는 주민 공동체가 먼저 자신의 "향토"를 알고, 나아가 나라나 민족을 넘어 생활문화 차원에서 상호 이해하며, 고립이 아닌 공감과 연대의 배려하는 공동체의식을 가질 필요가 있다. "세계상민학"이란, 민속의 사정과 현상을 가리키는 "세계민속학"은 아니고 국적, 시민권에 관계하는 "세계시민"과도 다르며 각 지역의 "향토" 문화를 담당하고 있는 실제의 사람들을 가리키는 것이다. 세계상민학의 목적은 인류에게 최대의 불행과 전쟁을 억제하고 세계 평화를 실현하는 것에 있다. 현대 사회의 분쟁과 전쟁 요인은 표면적으로 정치·경제적 갈등뿐만 아니라 그 이면에 내면적인 민족· 종교 문제, 즉 문화적 가치관의 차이가 있으며, 이는 사람들의 일상생활과 밀접하게 관련된 증오를 낳는다. 복전福田 사상은 개인화가 다방면으로 진행되고, 정보가 순식간에 지역을 초월하여 전달되는 현대 사회에 있어서 불교의 테두리를 넘어 사람들을 세계평화로 이끄는, 배제가 아닌 포용의 "협동자조" 사상으로서 다시 주목할 필요가 있다. 의사 나카무라 데쓰(中村哲)의 아프가니스탄에서의 실천 사례를 소개한다. Folklore studies target groups that constitute society and regions, such as families, villages, states, and ethnic groups, by listening to and documenting the everyday lives of the common folk and commoners, turning these observations into folkloristic writings and data for analysis. Early on, Yanagita Kunio proposed the development of "local studies," "folklore studies of a nation," "comparative folklore," and "world folklore" in response to these efforts. However, today"s perception of the living world has expanded to a global scale due to the development of information devices like smartphones and PCs, making it possible to quickly gain knowledge. In other words, we have entered an era of globalization where the relationship between "individual" and "world" has become direct and visible. As a premise for a multicultural coexistence society, the promotion of comparative folklore research and studies necessitates that the residents living in each region first understand their "locality" and then go beyond their country or ethnicity to understand each other on the level of living culture, fostering a community consciousness that emphasizes empathy and solidarity, not isolation. "World Common Folk Studies" is not the same as "World Folklore," which refers to the circumstances and phenomena of folklore, nor is it related to "world citizenship" concerning nationality or citizenship. Instead, it points to the actual people responsible for the "local" cultures of each region. The goal of World Common Folk Studies is to prevent the greatest misfortunes and wars to humanity and to realize world peace. The causes of modern society"s conflicts and wars are not only superficial political and economic disputes but also underlying ethnic and religious issues, i.e., cultural value differences that generate deeply rooted hatred related to people"s everyday lives. The Fukuda philosophy, emphasizing inclusion and cooperative self-help beyond the confines of Buddhism, deserves renewed attention in today"s society, where individualization is advancing, and information transcends regions instantly, leading people towards world peace. The practice of Dr. Tetsu Nakamura in Afghanistan is introduced as an example.
