This article is dedicated to discussing some hidden but crucial reasons that led to the outbreak of World War I, that is, nationalism and national conflicts, through three nationalisms: Pan-Slavism, Pan-Germanism, and French revanchism which have significant impacts on the occurrence and expansion of the war and how nationalism influenced the thinking and decision-making of European politicians at that time. At the same time refuted the consistent statement (The uneven distribution of interests among European empires especially between the British Empire and the German Empire led to the war.) through some government behaviors that deliberately incited national hatred and advocated war. This article will mainly demonstrate three aspects: The conflict between Pan-Germanism and Pan-Slavism in the Balkans triggered the war; Pan-Slavism became the pioneer in enlarging the war; French revanchism gave birth to the desire to participate in the war and its post-war impact.
