The utilization of power electrical equipment and their control is prevalent in both residential and business applications. When these loads are connected to the system, they introduce highly nonlinear current draws and harmonics into the system. Injected harmonics lead to diminished power quality (PQ) and decreased system efficiency. Conventional passive filters are recognized for their ability to reduce harmonic currents. However, the limitations of these filters include their enormous size and fixed harmonic order adjustment. This study utilizes a shunt active power filter (SAPF) to enhance PQ and minimize current harmonics. The SAPF is employed to quantify the harmonic magnitude. The SAPF employs fuzzy logic controllers to regulate the DC-link voltage, adaptive hysteresis current controllers to generate switching pulses, and modified synchronous reference frame (MSRF) technology to generate reference currents. The proposed controller effectively mitigates harmonics under distorted source conditions. The simulation results demonstrate the strong performance of the MSRF theory in both balanced and distorted supply scenarios. It is also observed from the results that the proposed controllerbased SAPF can mitigate the THD of the source current both under balanced and distorted source conditions.
