Purpose: This study reviews literature related to failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and illustrates cases of FMEA and failure mode, effects, and critical analysis (FMECA) utilizing failure data. The aim is to improve reliability and quality management methodologies applicable to manufacturing companies.BRMethods: A comprehensive literature review on FMEA is conducted, followed by the utilization of failure data to assign ratings for severity, occurrence, and detection, thereby organizing the risk priority number. Furthermore, in FMECA, conditional probability is applied to determine the probability of failure effects, summarizing the analysis results.BRResults: This study illustrates that the risk priority number and criticality of components may vary between through FMEA and FMECA, highlighting the differences between subjective judgment-based analysis and data-driven analysis.BRConclusion: This study presents cases employing FMEA and FMECA, demonstrating their general utility in industrial settings. Through these case studies, practical methods for quality management are provided.
