This article investigates the functioning of metaphor as a key linguistic tool in Hryhorii Tiutiunnyk's novel “Three Cuckoos with a Bow.” The study encompasses the typology and classification of metaphors, examining them by their degree of elaboration and novelty. Particular attention is paid to the mechanisms of metaphorization underlying the transfer of meaning — based on similarity of features, function, synesthesia, and through anthropomorphization. The functional load of metaphors is analyzed separately, considering their role in conveying expressiveness, revealing character psychology, creating aesthetic impression, and symbolizing. The interaction of metaphor with other linguistic devices and its cognitive aspect, through the conceptualization of emotions, time, and nature in the author's and his characters' consciousness, are also explored. All this allows for an understanding of how the author, through metaphorization, skillfully shapes his unique idiostyle, unveils the inner world of characters, and conveys profound meanings by utilizing the unique features of the Ukrainian language. The research aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis of metaphor's functioning as a key linguistic device that shapes the artistic world of the work, reveals the inner world of characters, and conveys the profound meanings of the narrative. This includes studying the typology of metaphors, the mechanisms of their creation, their functional load, their interaction with other linguistic means, and the cognitive processes that reflect the worldview of the author and the characters. The object of the study is the system of metaphorical formations (metaphorical models), encompassing the totality, interrelation, and functioning of all metaphorical expressions, as well as their role in shaping the artistic world, conveying meanings, and reflecting the author's worldview in H. Tiutiunnyk's novel “Three Cuckoos with a Bow.” The subject of the study is their functioning within the writer’s artistic discourse and idiostyle. The primary source for our research is H. Tiutiunnyk's collected works in 2 volumes. The study employs a comprehensive approach to research methods, combining traditional linguistic methods (descriptive, structural-semantic, functional, contextual, stylistic) with elements of cognitive linguistics. The study of metaphorical models in this work allows for an analysis of the author’s language as a tool for creating an artistic world, revealing character psychology, and conveying universal meanings. The research is important for deepening the study of Hryhorii Tiutiunnyk's idiostyle, enriching linguistic methodology for metaphor analysis, and broadening the understanding of the cultural code of Ukrainian literature as a component of the Ukrainian national worldview.
