Abstract Improving energy efficiency in buildings is a crucial strategy for reducing operational costs and enhancing property value. As a member of the European Union Energy Community, Kosovo aims to achieve a 32.5% reduction in energy use. Retrofitting efforts in Kosovo, specifically in occupied buildings, raise concerns about inhabitant's health and safety. This paper examines the challenges encountered during the Subsidiaries of Energy Efficiency in Kosovo project, focusing on the health and safety of inhabitants during renovation activities. Interviews reveal key issues like scheduling, safety, and indoor air quality. The study finds that integrating health and safety planning reduce risks and ensure the success of retrofit initiatives.
