This article examines the importance of analytical reading in the context of teaching foreign languages to primary school students within a competency-based approach. It emphasizes that analytical reading is an effective tool for developing critical thinking, linguistic competence, and overall speech culture. The main focus is on the development of a system of exercises for literary texts to be used in analytical reading lessons when studying a foreignlanguage in primary grades. The proposed system of exercises aims to develop speech skills, critical thinking, expand vocabulary, and increase students' motivation to learn a foreign language.
