Abstract The present study offers, for the first time, the edited text of a hitherto unpublished travel diary by Alexander Samoilovich, together with an official report about Russian Turkestan that he drafted in 1906 for the Imperial Academy of Sciences and St Petersburg University. The accompanying annotations serve to facilitate a deeper scholarly engagement with a substantial and still largely unexplored corpus of records on Central Asian colonial history.
