The rule of law is a principle of democratic governance existing from ancient times being propounded by early philosophers like Aristotle. The principle has undergone various changes since then to its systematic articulation by A. V. Dicey. As societies change, the principle evolves from traditional three principles highlighted by Dicey to an expanded interpretation so attend needs of the modern society. This paper highlights the evolution of rule of law from its ancient developments to its contemporary application with new principles included in its interpretation to ensure justice, fairness and liberty in democratic state.
