This report describes works undertaken by ARCUS (Archaeological Research and Consultancy at the University of Sheffield) on the 12 December 2003. ARCUS were commissioned by Mr D. Langley to carry out a watching brief on the construction of a new dwelling on Plot 3 at Pot House Farm, Whitwell Lane, Stocksbridge, South Yorkshire (Planning Application: Sheffield 99/0431). Footing trenches were excavated by a mechanical excavator according to the submitted ground plan. The sites proximity to the important erly eighteenth centry Bolsterstone Glass Furnace meaent that, despite the negative results of a small scale archaeological investigation in 1992, a watching brief weas required in this case. No archaeological deposits were located during the course of the watching brief carried out on the 12 of December 2003.
