Purpose Direct injection of methanol and diesel benefits over other fuel-air mixture preparation strategies. Design/methodology/approach This work investigates the effect of methanol and diesel injection pressure (IP) on combustion and emissions characteristics. CONVERGE CFD (computational fluid dynamics) was used for simulations, and the combustion model was validated with the experimental data. Findings The analysis found that 270 bar diesel IP and 230 bar methanol IP showed better engine performance. Practical implications Methanol can be an alternative fuel for internal combustion engines. Originality/value This work in original. Social implications Sustainable agriculture and transport sector development.
