We present a genome assembly from an individual female Anser anser (greylag goose; Chordata; Aves; Anseriformes; Anatidae). The assembly contains two haplotypes with total lengths of 1 313.44 megabases and 1 168.29 megabases. Most of haplotype 1 (92.76%) is scaffolded into 41 chromosomal pseudomolecules, including the W and Z sex chromosomes. Most of haplotype 2 (93.27%) is scaffolded into 39 chromosomal pseudomolecules. The mitochondrial genome has also been assembled, with a length of 16.74 kilobases. This assembly was generated as part of the Darwin Tree of Life project, which produces reference genomes for eukaryotic species found in Britain and Ireland.
