Abstract This poem examines the intersection of psychiatric and legal issues within civil, criminal, and correctional settings, focusing on severe mental illnesses among individuals in legal cases. It opines about the often-overlooked connection between psychiatric care and legal processes, particularly for female forensic inpatients. Despite the critical need for research, the field remains underexplored. The poem expresses how mental health professionals manage complex conditions such as personality disorders, psychosis, and substance abuse. Cases such as maternal filicide delineate the impact of childhood trauma and environmental factors on criminal behaviour. Discussing the challenges of treating long-term inmates in secured settings and underscoring the benefits of cognitive-behavioral therapy and mindfulness, the poem calls for increased research into gender disparities in forensic psychiatry and improved treatment strategies to advance care and rehabilitation for this underserved population.
