Broiler chicken farming is a rapidly growing agribusiness that supports food security and boosts the economy, but also causes environmental1 issues. To ensure sustainable growth, the farming system must balance productivity with environmental sustainability and animal welfare. To address these challenges, this study assesses the environmental impact and ecological efficiency of broiler production using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). This study, conducted at a closed-house farm in Central Java, examines broiler chicken production using a gate-to-gate scope covering the arrival of day-old chicks (DOC), the growing stage, and harvesting, in a closed-house system that applies better management practices compared to traditional housing. However, this system requires higher energy consumption. This research further formulates several recommended strategies aimed at reducing the overall eco-cost value and improving environmental performance.
