The simulation of the structural health monitoring in austenitic steels by means of determining the topography of magnetic mass on their surface is illustrated in this paper. The austenitic steel has been simulated by a non-magnetic polymeric structure and the martensitic phase by amorphous magnetic ribbons, in different shapes. The magnetic field response obtained by a giant magneto-impedance sensor clearly represented the shape of the magnetic material at distances in the order of 1.5 mm with a simple scanning, indicating the ability of the sensor to determine the martensitic phase on the surface of the austenitic steel.
