ABSTRACT Musculoskeletal conditions are a major cause of emergency department presentations. In this Opinion paper, we argue that Australian hospital reporting and coding of musculoskeletal care are both inconsistent and underestimated. This has important implications for health service planning and policy. A more inclusive and clinically informed reporting approach is essential.
