Abstract 4,4‐Dimethylsterols constitute a unique class of phytosterols – naturally occurring compounds that have gained significant attention due to their potential health benefits and wide‐ranging biological activities. This review explores the diverse sources, chemical structure, synthetic approaches, and identification methods, focusing on the unique properties of 4,4‐dimethylsterols that distinguish them within the sterol family. Comparative evaluation of analytical techniques such as solid‐phase extraction, thin‐layer chromatography, and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry are evaluated for their effectiveness in identifying and quantifying these compounds, which play a crucial role in verifying oil authenticity. Synthetic approaches, such as chemical synthesis and enzymatic transformation are also discussed in the context of 4,4‐dimethylsterol production. Beyond methodology, the review examines the emerging trends linking 4,4‐dimethylsterols to anti‐inflammatory, anti‐Alzheimer's, and anti‐Parkinsonian properties. Finally, this review addresses prevailing challenges surrounding 4,4‐dimethylsterols, including bioavailability, stability, and safety profiles, while offering a glimpse into the future of 4,4‐dimethylsterol research. This review produces current knowledge and spotlights overlooked functional attributes, positioning 4,4‐dimethylsterols as promising candidates for nutraceutical and therapeutic applications. © 2026 Society of Chemical Industry.
