ABSTRACT The physical dimensions of more than 200 pairs of contact lenses fitted by medical, optometric and lay personnel and worn by self‐proclaimed “comfortable” contact lens wearers were analyzed. About two‐thirds of the subjects were females. On the basis of the fluorescein patterns observed, it seemed probable that most practitioners aim at “On K” fitting of the base curve. In addition, they appear to favor a rather large lens with a large optical zone although an “age” analysis of the lenses used pointed to a trend today toward the use of smallers lenses. Little correlation between any two physical dimensions of the lenses was apparant nor was a correlation found between eye characteristics and contact lens characteristics. It seems reasonable to conclude that a “good” contact lens wearer will wear a rather wide variety of cotact lens designs.
