In this retrospective cohort study, Khoei et al. evaluate the relationship between female in-vitro fertilization (IVF) utilization rates and mandates for insurance coverage of male infertility care across the United States. They did so through analysis of the Optum Clinformatics de-identified Data Mart Database from 2003 to 2020 with a final cohort of 23,061 women aged 21 - 44. They split up the categories of interpretation into (1) states mandating IVF coverage and male infertility care (2) states mandating only IVF coverage, and (3) all remaining states. They found IVF utilization to be 6x higher in states with mandated male infertility coverage compared to those without mandated coverage. Furthermore, they showed a higher number of live births per 100,000 women in states mandating both IVF and male infertility care compared to those without mandated coverage (154 vs 32, respectively).
