The Canadian workforce faces significant and complex health human resource (HHR) challenges. The implementation of interprofessional models of team-based care in hospital settings could be one path toward alleviating the strain HHR challenges place on the Canadian health system. This study aimed to provide rapid, evidence-informed guidance to policymakers by synthesizing insights from exemplar models of care (MoCs) in Canadian hospitals. This research had a broad, policy-oriented scope, and its outcomes served a dual purpose both to explore the role of MoCs in Canadian hospitals and to present a methodological approach that can be adapted for other exploratory studies with policy implications. Our findings highlight core characteristics associated with “successful” MoC implementation: leadership, communication, trust, and role clarity. Further research is recommended for a systemic understanding of organizational needs in hospitals across the country.
