Abstract

Background: Neisseria meningitidis is the causative pathogen of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD). An in-house nucleic acid detection assay for N. meningitidis performed on blood (NM-NAT) has been available at John Hunter Hospital since 2008 as an adjunct to blood cultures for IMD diagnosis.
