Background: Both the Friedewald and Sampson-NIH equations can be used for LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C) calculation, but they differ in permissible maximum triglyceride concentrations (Friedewald: 4.5, Sampson-NIH: 9.0 mmol/L). This study examined the percentage of invalid results in clinical practice associated with use of these equations and the agreement between the two equations when triglycerides were ≤4.5 mmol/L.
