South African district hospitals play a crucial role in providing healthcare services to underserved populations. However, their performance and effectiveness vary significantly across different districts. A mixed-method approach was employed, combining quantitative analysis with qualitative insights. Panel data from three years were used to estimate the impact of various healthcare interventions on patient outcomes. The analysis revealed a significant improvement in treatment adherence rates (85% adherence observed) among patients receiving standardised care protocols compared to baseline levels (60%). This study provides valuable insights into the operational efficiency and clinical effectiveness of district hospitals, highlighting key areas for future improvements. Further research should focus on implementing evidence-based interventions in underserved districts to improve patient outcomes across South Africa.
