The economic importance of carbonatites comes from the fact that they are rich sources of REE mineralization. Aeromagnetic data is very useful in identifying mafic-ultramafic carbonatite plugs as they are associated with minerals of high magnetic susceptibility. Several carbonatite complexes of north-east India exhibit intense aeromagnetic anomalies of unusual nature. The Jasra carbonatite is discovered on this line. Now a similar magnetic signature is identified in the Brahmaputra plains near Morigoan town in Assam state, north-east India, indicating the presence of an intrusive plug (Carbonatite?) occupying an area of about 7 km2 under alluvial cover of about 150 meters.
