Waste-to-energy incinerators have been proposed as a solution to manage urban waste in Lagos slums, but their impact on air quality is uncertain. A comprehensive search strategy was employed to identify relevant literature, including peer-reviewed articles, grey literature, and conference proceedings. Studies were assessed for methodological rigor and relevance to the review's objectives. Analysis revealed a mixed pattern of air quality changes around incinerator sites, with some studies indicating decreases in particulate matter (PM2. 5) concentrations near facilities while others observed no significant change or increases. While waste-to-energy incinerators appear to have limited effects on reducing PM2. 5 levels in the short term, their long-term sustainability and broader impact on air quality need further investigation. Further research should focus on understanding the temporal dynamics of air quality changes around these facilities and exploring potential synergistic or antagonistic effects with other waste management practices. The empirical specification follows Y=₀+^ X+, and inference is reported with uncertainty-aware statistical criteria.
