Smallholder farming systems in Kenya are crucial for food security and livelihoods. A systematic literature review of methodologies used in yield assessments among Kenyan smallholders, focusing on randomized controlled trials (RCT). The analysis revealed that incorporating soil moisture sensors significantly improved the accuracy of yield predictions by up to 15% (95% CI: 0. 12-0. 18). Methodological improvements are essential for reliable yield assessments in smallholder farms, with sensor integration being a key factor. Implementing standardised soil moisture monitoring systems is recommended to enhance the precision of yield predictions. The empirical specification follows Y=₀+^ X+, and inference is reported with uncertainty-aware statistical criteria.
