Desertification in the Sahelian region of Gambia threatens agricultural productivity and biodiversity. Sustainable land management (SLM) practices are crucial for combating desertification. A comprehensive search strategy was employed to identify relevant studies from peer-reviewed journals. Studies were screened using predefined inclusion criteria, including relevance, quality, and data availability. A narrative synthesis approach was used to summarize findings. SLM practices such as contour farming and agroforestry have been effective in reducing soil erosion and improving water retention in the Sahelian region of Gambia. The review highlights the potential of SLM for sustainable land management, particularly through integrated approaches that combine traditional knowledge with modern techniques. Policy makers should promote a multifaceted approach to desertification control, emphasising community participation and long-term commitment to SLM practices. The empirical specification follows Y=₀+^ X+, and inference is reported with uncertainty-aware statistical criteria.
