Since the radial two-ring slim fiber became clinically available in 2018, percutaneous laser ablation of tributary varicose veins has gained popularity in Japan. Because it requires no skin incision, this technique offers advantages over stab avulsion by avoiding adverse events such as bleeding, nerve injury, lymphatic damage, and scarring. In October 2024, the procedure was approved for coverage under the Japanese national health insurance system. Subsequently, a national guideline was published in April 2025.
