The importance of research software and the professionals who develop it is clearer than ever. Looking ahead to 2030, this talk explores how the Society for Research Software in Germany (de-RSE) and the international Research Software Alliance (ReSA) are shaping the future of the research software community through aligned yet distinct approaches. de-RSE participates in the joint FutuRSI-project to conceptualise a German research software institution. FutuRSI, a joint initiative of universities, research institutes and associations, envisions a future where research software and its creators are fully integrated into the academic ecosystem. Building on the momentum of de-RSE, FutuRSI fosters an open, collaborative and inclusive community for RSEs in Germany and beyond. By 2030, FutuRSI aims to have strengthened national coordination, ensured long-term career paths for RSEs, and embedded RSE considerations into research policy and infrastructure design. The Research Software Alliance (ReSA) is a global organisation that unites decision-makers and key influencers across the international research and innovation community. ReSA fills a crucial niche, creating much-needed opportunities for stakeholders across the entire research software community to come together to discover solutions, learn best practices, and share the knowledge that advances progress. Like de-RSE, ReSA advances the agency and recognition of research software and research software professionals. This talk explores a future scenario where de-RSE and ReSA collaborate on aligned initiatives that support research software to solidify next-generation research and innovation, and economic growth.
