Analysis of literature allows us to conclude that soil changes resulting from military actions are catastrophic. Historical aspects of the impact of armed conflicts on soils from ancient times to the present day are considered. Special attention is paid to modern weapons causing serious negative consequences for soils. Main directions of negative impact on soils are highlighted: physical (compaction, mixing, crater formation), morphological (construction of defensive structures, creation of artificial obstacles) and chemical (contamination with heavy metals, explosives, herbicides, radioactive elements). A list of methods for assessing the consequences of military actions on soils and possible ways to rehabilitate damaged territories is provided.
