Genomics is gradually reshaping how NHS services are offered and delivered, with inherited cardiac conditions representing a key area of impact. Genetic testing can support better risk assessment, early diagnosis, targeted treatment and personalised care. Although genomic services are often associated with specialised centres, general practice nurses are ideally placed to support patients and families through the process of screening and education, helping to ensure continuity of care. This article outlines common inherited cardiac conditions and highlights key considerations for practice nurses, including recognising clinical cues, taking detailed family histories, providing psychosocial support and making timely referrals to specialised services. As genomic testing becomes more widely available, practice nurses are encouraged to take an active role in integrating genomic knowledge into primary care, leading service improvements and optimising patient care pathways and outcomes.
