Combining artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the physics teaching team of Xi’an Jiaotong University and Chaoxing Company jointly built two smart courses, “University Physics Quantum Physics” and “University Physics Thermodynamics”, on the Fanya platform. The course features an intelligent curriculum-map system that is underpinned by a knowledge graph, driven by a problem graph, guided by an objective graph, and implicitly shaped by ideological and political education graph. It creates a virtual learning environment together with an intelligent tutoring and Q&A system, incorporates intelligent assessment and monitoring capabilities within the smart course, and provides an AI teaching assistant. This paper presents the AI-based methodology and principal measures adopted to build a smart university physics course, along with the initial outcomes already achieved. Leveraging this smart course initiative, the teaching team has attained outstanding results in textbook development, exemplary cases of ideological and political education, and the publication of pedagogical reform papers.
